We are camping at Fort Sumner State Park. It is on Sumner lake. We have a beautiful view of the lake and the countryside to the east all the way to the horizon.
The town nearby is known for being the location where Billy the Kid was killed. They have his grave and a small museum on his life.
I had looked up the cell service for the park and it was wrong. We have 3 bars of AT&T and 4 bars of Verizon. Whew! I thought I was going without internet. LOL. We decided it would be fun to include the altitude on where are are staying. In Logan it was 4065 ft. In Clovis we were at 4278 ft. We are currently at Lake Sumner at 4301 ft. We will just be here for one day. This evening we were visited by a flock of turkeys. They were very young.
In the morning we plan to go fishing.

We traveled a short distance today. We are in Clovis NM to have recall work done on the Durango. We will need to contact the company again. The repair did not correct the problem.
After the repair we moved to an RV park on the west side of town. Then off to dinner, shopping for a few things we need, get fuel, and visit with family here in Clovis. It was a busy day but nice.
We spent most of the day getting the 5th wheel to be ready to head west. But first we will head to Clovis, about 80 miles south, to have recall work done to the 5th wheel. It seems that the awning has an electrical problem that can allow it to open on its own without warning. I pulled the fuse so that it can not open. The repair will take only about 30 minutes.
We will stay in Clovis for Monday night to visit family and then head west Tuesday morning. I got to play with our new generator. It was great. I really did not expect it to work as well as it did. Once it was up, running, and connected to the 5th wheel, Shawna started the AC. It had no problem and the sound was not loud at all. To have more battery charge, we added a second battery to our 5th wheel. The rest of the day was getting the truck ready and organizing the storage in the "basement" of the 5th wheel. Tired from working to get everything ready for travel, we went to the local restaurant for dinner. As we pulled into the garage tonight, I noticed a tarantula directly in front of us. We did not want to run over it with the car, so I hopped out and tried to redirect it. It was not having any of that so I had to get a broom. He was about 5 inches across and lifted his front legs in a challenge. He definitely did not see me as a problem. I just wanted to keep him from being squished by a tire and he was like "Yea, come on buddy!" He was jet black and huge. The hot tub was installed by professionals and the electrical all set up by the electrician. So now the redo of the deck that surrounds the hot tub. Tommy, Shawna's dad, built the deck around the original tub, so figuring how to put new boards up with pieces of C-channel metal is interesting. After 7 hours, it is as finished as it could be before we leave for California. It helps to be supervised. Great! Time to get in and give the tired muscles a soak. Casey, our resident Tarantula, named by our grand daughter, Jane, was right outside the 5th wheel. After the rain storm and a little bit of hail, we got 8/10's of an inch which is a lot for this area. We had a very different sunset.
The hot tub could not be fixed. It was set in place 20 years ago. I think they got their money's worth out of it. We are sure of the date because the concrete pad was marked "8/98 BJM-TDM". The tub was purchased used and was manufactured in 1983.
Today we worked on removing the old tub to make room for a new one. The porch was built around the tub so to remove it required a portable lift, cutting torch, grinder, skill saw, sawzall, drill, heavy duty towing straps, and a long chain attached to the truck.
Once out we started removing as much weight from the tub itself.
There were a lot of small spiders but one was really large.
The spot is now clean and ready for the new tub to be delivered next week.
We had a great visit with family who came to the lake this weekend.
This morning we noticed a big covey of Quail. |
