Deros Coach Ring of Kerry Tour

We had breakfast at the hotel and then walk down to meet our bus and rode through some nice countryside. Our first stop was the Red Fox inn with a Bog house museum.  We just got an Irish coffee it was very good.

Next was a sheep herding demonstration.  The man used two dogs to control and move the sheep from far up a hill all the way to the bottom where we were standing almost exclusively using whistles.

Tom O’Sullivan and 'Northhill Tess' - won the Run International Supreme Championship in 2021.  He has his own YouTube channel.  

We did pass a 7th century ring fort but it was far in the distance as it is not accessible by bus.  It looks pretty good for being over 1200 years old.

More countryside then a stop for lunch.

Back on the bus for a while, then a stop in a small town to stretch our legs and maybe buy some ice cream.

Soon we were off to Killarney.  We made a short stop to drop off some hikers and a view of the valley.  Also some interesting moss.

  Some things I found interesting about the area.

• They have Circle K's here?! 
• In the 8th century, the Vikings were 1st visitors to Ireland for 1000s of years.
• Normans, the English, were next to invade. They introduced the idea of building hedge rows to separate fields and property.
• Irish football is the most popular sport.
• St Brendon sailed from here and wrote details of his travels to Iceland, then Greenland, then Canada.  Columbus came to read his manuscript before sailing to the Americas.
• Rhododendron grows wild as a weed
