I know it is a bit a a nerd thing but a ship that will be used to land space ships is in Pensacola. The ship is being modified to accommodate the landing platform. I find it amazing that Pensacola was selected for the work. The rear stacks are being removed right now and a huge deck is under construction across almost the entire top of the ship.  And this is the what it should look like after all the work is complete.  I will check back in a few weeks to see how much progress they have made on the work.

The weather cooperated and we decided to go to the beach.
After arriving at Pensacola Beach we drove over to Fort Pickens. We decided to go for a walk at the Pensacola Pass part of the park. The walk was great. Very clean sand with almost no trash at all. I was surprised. The waves were crashing in the pass because of the changing tide. 
At times it seemed that the waves were crashing 3 directions in the same area. Definitely not a place to be swimming.
I was able to get some pictures of a crane, sandpipers and seagulls.
A sailing ship was leaving port as we reached the pass. It would have been great if they had been able to raise sail for the exit to the Gulf but the tides and wind were not cooperating.
For your own safety stay off the roads in NW Florida. I am driving the truck again. I am recovering from the eye surgery.
Ok it is not as bad as it seems and so far I have driving all the way to Jay and back with no problems. The return trip was in the dark. The bubble of gas is shrinking and should be gone in the next week. I am going to need surgery for the forming cataract. This will happen some time mid-May. |
