More family has arrived and we are having a great time with the children and grands. We are looking forward to sharing so much of what the lake and New Mexico has to show them. Here are some of the vegetables that Shawna has been growing. This little guy was running around one day. I don't know what to say about this bug other than he was huge. The antenna were several inches long. Seems he must have come to visit from Texas. You know everyone from there says that everything is bigger in Texas.

Well our youngest is here with his wife and 4 children. Yea! They make the trip all in one drive. Driving for about 23 hours is not for the weak at heart. Very exhausting but they made it without problems. We took a hike across the road at the state park. The trail passes through cactus, down into the rocky canyon like area near the lake, and then over the the next part of the state park. It was just over 2 miles round trip. We had a several of the local lizard show themselves. Most are about a foot long. As with most plants here they are a little different. This is how big the dandelions get. Well the sunsets are still really impressive.
We tried to get a video of us driving down the Caprock which is between
Clovis and Logan NM. Well it was as people here describe it "a little bit warm". But it was a dry heat. The humidity was 12%.
Yesterday the humidity was 6%. When we started working on the porch at the Lake House it was not in very good shape. There were problems with supports, issues will bad wood, and a serious need of repainting. After a lot of hours of work we have the porch rebuilt. We removed the ramp. Some of the supports under the porch needed replacement. All of the porch needed sanding. Some boards were warped and we replaced those. Then we stained the wood. All the railings were removed and replaced in a pattern that was used at Shawna's mothers home. Last we painted the area around the porch. We will paint the rest of the house this month. We will be working inside Friday through Monday. The highs will be 100 degrees to 103 degrees through Tuesday. For the rest of the summer highs over 100 are common.
I needed to dig a ditch to fix a problem at the park. We did not have water at the 5th wheel. Up till this project, we had been using several long garden hoses bringing water from the lake house next door. When the sun was out and warm, we found that we did not need to run hot water in the shower. The cold was more than hot enough until the hoses had been flushed of the heated water. The exact location of the water pipe was not known. I had to dig a 10 foot long and 3 foot deep ditch before I found that the pipe was almost 4 feet deep. The ditch went right over the pipe but just not quite deep enough. Here it is considered normal to have water pipes over 3 feet below the surface. Due to the cold weather in winter, pipes need to be deeper than I was used to finding. Once I found the pipes, I filled in the other parts of the ditch and expanded the area to make work possible. Finished! We now have a water connection at the 5th wheel just below ground in a water access box.
Soon we will finish the front porch and I will post pictures before and after on that project. |
