Up we go to Brasstown Bald Mountain which at 4,783 feet is the tallest point in Georgia. The drive up to the entrance to the park was “interesting”. Along with being a curving and climbing road there were people biking up too. We got to the parking lot and decided to hike up from there and ride the shuttle bus back down. Only a little more than ½ a mile but a steady steep climb that rises 500 feet up the mountain. The view from the top was great. Video coming...
After that we visited Helton Creek Falls.
The fall is 80 feet to a pool below then on to a cascade to another pool. The water was flowing and it was very pretty. The hike as very short from the parking area and the falls were nice it was the 2.2 mile drive in and out that was scary. The first half of the road is paved but only as wide as a drive way and ends with the second half sometimes slightly wider but gravel. It had plenty of blind curves with one side being the mountain and the other a drop of 50 to 100 feet. No guard rails and not much of an edge from the road. So the issue is you are driving on a rolling curvy road with no way to know if someone is about to come around the blind curves toward you.
As we headed back to the highway we decided to record the drive.
