We hiked a combination of trails along Lake James. The lake is large and very popular for boating, skiing and fishing. The trail was 3.5 mile loop.
There were a few interesting things along the way. Mushrooms seem to grow very large up here. Some have been the size of dinner plates but most are only about 6 inches across.
A very small deer, likely a young male, was walking across the trail. He stood about 20 feet away and watched us for a while. The video is not great but near the end I was able to get a full view of him.
I have a few pictures of the lake and trail. Later we stopped at an over look where you can see the end of Linville Gorge and some of the mountains.
