Today we hiked our most ambitious trail yet at Caprock Canyon State Park.
The trail is listed as “Strenuous”. It is 7 miles and took us 6 hours which included stops at overlooks, water breaks, and lunch. The change in altitude of the trail is just over 700 feet but almost all of that was in a ¼ of a mile.
The climb up the canyon wall was near vertical at times. Walking along what seemed a mountain goat path. One-foot wide ledges with a sheer 100 foot drop on one side and the mountain on the other. It helps that we don’t have a fear of heights. This hike would cure you of the fear or convince you to never take a hike like this again, one way or the other. I now know what it is like to walk the ledge of 10 story building.
